5 Star UCLA Recruit Soso Jamabo Arrested For Running Away from the Cops On Prom Night
Crime Blog – A Plano West High School football player who was one of the most sought-after college recruits nationwide was arrested early Sunday on a charge of fleeing police in a vehicle, records show.
UCLA recruit Soso Jamabo, whose legal name is Sotonye Josiah Jamabo, was booked into the Kaufman County Jail around 1:30 a.m., online records show.
Jamabo, 19, was held on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle. He was also given written warnings for minor consumption of alcohol, minor in possession of alcohol, speeding, driving without a license and disregarding a stop sign.
It’s unclear whether Jamabo has an attorney. He remained jailed Sunday and was awaiting arraignment as of 1:45 p.m., the Kaufman County sheriff’s office said.
UCLA Associate Athletic Director Josh Rupprecht said in an email that the team is “aware” of Jamabo’s reported arrest. “We are obviously concerned about these reports and are currently gathering more information,” Rupprecht said. “As this is a continuing process, we will withhold further comment until the appropriate time.”
Jamabo may have been at Plano West’s senior prom earlier in the night. A photo uploaded to Twitter around 6 p.m. Saturday shows Jamabo in a suit posing with a date who’s wearing a long gown. She wrote it was “prom.” Jamabo retweeted the photo.
Jamabo was one of the most sought-after football prospects in the nation for the Class of 2015, ranked No. 22 overall by Rivals.com.
Big news for my boy Soso Jamabo, getting that street cred up a little bit before he heads to college to launch what will surely be a superstar career. Got a good feeling about this kid, not just in between the white lines, but providing us with some solid blog material off of it also. Just a lightning rod of entertainment value.
I mean it’s not like he killed a guy. Just drank at prom like 100% of the people writing and reading this blog did, then decided he didn’t feel like getting arrested and missing the afterparties, so he just drove away from the cops a lil bit. Whatever. Seen guys with a lotttttt more baggage than that have some solid success.
